How to Maintain Your Fitness on Holiday
A holiday is a time to relax and to forget your troubles but many still want to maintain their fitness, especially if they are away for a considerable period of time. August seems to be a favourite month for holidays. So, whether you’re jetting off to a remote location, or you’re spending the time in the U.K, you can still keep on top of your fitness game.
While on holiday your priorities should very much be spending time with your loved ones and unwinding. However, keeping up your fitness while you’re away doesn’t have to be difficult or time-consuming. Here are some tips to keep you fit as a fiddle!
Reset Your Expectations
It’s not likely that you will be able to keep up your full workout routine while on holiday. So, don’t set unrealistic expectations for yourself. Planning to do some exercise while away is much better than doing nothing at all.
Motivation
You should be relaxed and revived while you’re away. Give yourself a couple of days to settle into your surroundings and then go and explore. You can go for a walk or run and this will keep you motivated to get moving for the rest of your holiday.
Workout in the Morning
Some people have preferred times of the day to be working out but it’s best while on holiday if you wish to do some exercise it’s best to do it in the mornings and get it out the way. This means exercise won’t interrupt any of your afternoon/evening plans – happy hour shouldn’t really be compromised.
High-Intensity Workouts
High-Intensity Interval Training can cut your workout times down dramatically. See our previous article about HIIT to find out a bit more about what it is, its benefits and how you can add it into your current exercise routine.
Don’t go Barmy at the Buffet
We’ve all been there, thoughts begin to surface when faced with a holiday buffet such as ‘we need to get our money’s worth here.’ However, this doesn’t mean you have to choose every unhealthy option there. Enjoy your food but try and keep in control, take advantage of the fresh fruit and vegetables where possible.
Get Adventurous
A holiday is a perfect time to rent a bike, kayak or surfboard. Try something new and burn a few calories while you’re at it!
We hope you have found these tips useful and they will help to keep you physically active and motivated while on your holiday. They will help you to avoid the classic holiday belly bulge and come home feeling even more revived.
