“when I follow ’The Promise’, I’m doing a coherent programme that introduces me to exercises I wouldn’t think of myself. This helps me work different muscle groups, I can feel that on my body and that really motivates me.”

Marlene’s story’s story

At InstructorLive we are always interested to know more about you guys and how using InstructorLive fits into your life. We, therefore, had a little chat with one of our new Danish members
Marlene is a 20 something-year-old Scandinavian mum. She gave birth to baby Alba 11 months ago and has recently gone back to working part-time as a designer of her own brands and as a social media manager in a fashion magazine. In addition to this she is also a blogger under the name ‘Scandimom’ so she is quite the busy lady, but loves to have many projects going on at once, she tells me.
When I ask her about InstructorLive and why she is using it she explains that she used to be a fitness instructor and that working out is her ‘me-time’. It is the feeling of wellbeing and of doing something for yourself. Since becoming a mum she hasn’t had much time to herself and most of her time is focussed on taking care of her little daughter. “I’m good at going for a 25-minute run when my partner gets home from work”, she says, “but it’s fitting in the strength exercises I lack“”Alba and work keep me occupied most of the day so it’s been quite hard for me to schedule in time to do my strength exercises. I recently had a trial membership for a yoga studio for a week and I was really struggling to find the time to get to the studio! It was all about coordination and to be honest I found it quite stressful”, she tells me.
I’m not yet a mum myself, but I can imagine that it must be difficult to find time to take care of your own needs or nourish the relationship you have with yourself. We talk about the time aspect some more and she tells me that her partner is actually a pilot, which means that he has a changing work schedule. In addition to this, Marlene’s designer work is divided between two different brands. One is Marlene’s own where she designs headbands for women and sells them on Instagram (@its_a_headband) but next to that she is also designing baby accessories and selling them on her and her partner’s webshop (www.albaandme.com). Both she and her partner’s jobs mean that things need to be flexible at their house as there are no fixed 9 to 5 working days.
Laughing a little Marlene says that as soon as you get over the 80’s feeling of standing there in front of the TV working out InstructorLive is really good because it allows you to follow a program when it fits into your schedule. She tells me that she is usually doing the exercises at home when her baby is asleep or when her partner is there to entertain her.
When asked about the impact InstructorLive has on her body her answer is quite clear: “I’m not struggling against kilos after giving birth, but I do lack my strength! Things that didn’t use to be heavy for me to carry are now too tough for me to lift and I easily get back pains. If I do my own exercises at home on the floor, I don’t get all the way around in a full workout, but when I follow ’The Promise’ [a workout on InstructorLive], I’m doing a coherent program that introduces me to exercises I wouldn’t think of myself. This helps me work for different muscle groups, I can feel that on my body and that really motivates me”.
